GLADSTONE -- The 21st annual Michigan Harvest Gathering Campaign started on Monday, and Michigan State Police in the Gladstone Post are encouraging residents to help.
This is part of the state employees campaign to stamp out hunger. The campaign is coordinated by the Food Bank Council of Michigan. State police are encouraging the public to drop off non-perishable food items like canned vegetables, soups, and even baby formula and diapers.
They can stop by the state police post Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"It's very important for the community and all the communities involved," said Michigan State Trooper Geno Basanese. "This will be something great because one in ten residents in Michigan will be going to a food bank this year. So this is great where we can give back."
State police also plan on having a box outside their door for people to drop off food after business hours. It all goes to local food banks.
The Harvest Gathering Campaign ends on October 28.
