MARQUETTE COUNTY -- The National Weather Service is predicting high winds on Friday and Saturday for the Upper Peninsula and reminding residents to stay safe.
Winds could gust up to 50 and 60 miles an hour in some areas of Marquette and Alger County.
There is also a lakeshore flood advisory for the Luce and Alger County shorelines, with waves up to 25 feet expected.
The Marquette City Fire Department is also advising the public that the access to Black Rocks on Presque Isle and the approach to the North Break wall will be barricaded for the duration of the storm.
With most of the warnings and advisories lasting through most of the weekend, make sure to check before you head out.
"Most of our advisories and warnings go through Saturday night," said Meteorologist Megan Babich. "The latest ones will be, I believe, midnight on Saturday for Luce and Alger counties."
If you are caught outside with high winds the weather service advises to take cover next to buildings, use handrails when available and watch for any debris.
