ESCANABA -- The American Transmission Company held a public meeting on Wednesday in Escanaba to discuss the new power line route to help the Upper Peninsula grid.
ATC is proposing to build a new six mile, double circuit line and substation. Construction on the new power line is set to start July 2013. It'll serve as a back up.
Officials are trying to reinforce reliability in the Escanaba area. That's because the existing facilities are overloaded frequently.
"We've already invested $2.5 billion in increasing reliability in the eastern two-thirds of Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan," said Jackie Olson of ATC. "So it's an ongoing issue that we keep addressing to improve electric reliability."
It'll run from the current Chandler substation to a new substation that will be built on the paper mill property.
