MARQUETTE -- Northern Michigan University students will soon be performing a play that will ask the main character what it means to be a man or a woman.
The play is called "Complete Female Stage Beauty" which was the basis of a 2004 film by Jeffery Hatcher, who will be in town to see the production.
The play centers on a man in 1659 England who makes his living playing women's roles. His world changes when the king of England declares that all women's roles will now be played by women only.
Cast and crew say its themes run true today as much as 17th Century England.
"We watch an individual who really finds out who he is by exploring the gender questions of his period and, of course, ours," said Theater Professor, Shelly Parks.
"Complete Female Stage Beauty" runs from October 12-15 at the Forest Roberts Theater.
Due to mature themes, children are discouraged from attending.
