MARQUETTE -- Marquette city officials were presented with a check for $20,000 on Monday to help improve Shiras Park.

The money is part of Coca-Cola's Sprite Spark Parks grand program.  The money will go to improving the basketball courts at the park by replacing the rims, backboards, and resurfacing the court.

The Sparks Parks is an online program where residents submit parks and reasons they should be improved.

Shiras park is one of only 20 in the nation to receive the grant.

"It's about living positively and helping our youth to have a safe place to live and grow up," said Coca-Cola District Manager Rick Junion.

City officials say they plan to take bids on the project over the winter, and work will begin in early spring of 2012.
