UPPER PENINSULA -- Many folks are getting used to the sunny skies, warm days, and mild nights that we've seen recently across the Upper Peninsula. But a big change is coming to our weather pattern as soon as next week.
Here's why:
The strong upper-high that is currently centered just to the southeast of Lake Erie is expected to weaken and retreat to the east.
A low-pressure trough that has been stuck in place out over the Great Plains will finally begin to move to the north and east around the retreating high.
All of that being said, the low-pressure system is expected to slowly pass through the U.P. on Wednesday. It will stick around, bringing rain showers, cloudy skies, and cooler temperatures until the end of next week.
Even though we had such a wet September, which made up for the dry summer, this early October dry spell is hurting our rainfall budget, now at a deficit of 3.66 inches of rain for the year.
The cold front from this low-pressure system will help us to see temperatures closer to normal values as we reach the middle of October.
