UPPER PENINSULA -- It has been an unusually warm start to our October with record heat.  On the 4th and 5th, we tied our record highs for 76 and 78 degrees respectively.

The normal high temperatures for our area for early October are in the upper 50s.  That's nearly 20 degrees below what we've been seeing this month.  It's all due to abundant daytime sunshine with increased southerly winds, ushering in warmer air to the Upper Peninsula ahead of a frontal system now located over the Great Plains.

This frontal system will attempt to pass across the Midwest near the latter half of the weekend, but a strong area of high pressure to our east will block most of the front's motion.

The cold front will slide to the north of the blocking high pressure on Sunday, passing over the U.P., possibly bringing a few raindrops.

We haven't had any rain here since the dumping of rain near the end of September.

Another low pressure system will bring more rain towards the end of next week, and that's when we'll see the temperatures drop significantly to more normal values.
