BARAGA COUNTY -- A man, currently housed in the Baraga Max Correctional Facility, was arraigned on charges of soliciting the murder of a state lawmaker.

Larry Taylor, 43, was arraigned in Marquette District Court on Thursday.

An investigation of Taylor was started on September 9 when Department of Corrections investigators intercepted a letter soliciting the kidnap and killing of State Representative Barb Byrum.

Investigators contacted the Negaunee State Police Post who aided in an operation that ended with Taylor contacting an undercover police officer.

A pretrial hearing will take place on October 20 in Marquette County District Court.
