MARQUETTE -- The Marquette County Board of Commissioners met their new county clerk Tuesday night.

Judge Thomas Solka announced the appointment of Peter Dishnow, who replaces longtime clerk Connie Branam who announced her retirement in August.

Dishnow is a graduate of Ishpeming High School and NMU and served as an assistant to the Ishpeming city clerk in the 1980s.  He has held the position as election specialist for the Michigan Bureau of Elections for over 20 years.

"A big part of the county clerk's job has to do with elections, which is something I have been familiar with for over 20 some years now, and it was a good fit for me and a good time in my life for this move, so it all kind of fell together," said Dishnow.

Prior to the county clerk announcement, several city and county officials used public comment to ask the board to reconsider proposed cuts to the prosecutor's office.
