Upper Michigan power companies making headway in repairing downed lines

MARQUETTE COUNTY -- Upper Michigan electrical companies have crews back in the field this Sunday morning.

UPPCO has the most outages. Those are concentrated primarily in the Forsyth Township area.

Marquette's Board of Light and Power has less than 100. Most of those are single residences that had their service lines to the house taken down by trees. Power crews will attack those outages one at a time, which will take time.

The Alger-Delta Cooperative Electrical Association has restored power to all of their customers. They finished the job around 8pm Saturday.

Power crews have been working around the clock restoring power. But the severity of last Thursday's storm hasn't been seen in decades and the wind knocked down an unbelievable number of trees throughout Upper Michigan. Power companies ask for your patience as they try to get to everyone, as quickly and safely as possible.

The power is coming back on, slowly, Saturday night for thousands of Upper Michigan residents. They have been in the dark since the near hurricane force winds ripped through the area Thursday night.

The hardest hit area has been Marquette County. According to the Upper Peninsula Power Company website, the Gwinn area still had some 2,500 customers without electricity on Saturday night.

Officials with the Marquette Board of Light and Power Saturday night, say they have less than 100 customers without electricity. They say a lot of the outages they're working on are to single residences where trees have taken down lines to a home.

Tom Harrell, General Manager of the Alger-Delta Cooperative Electric Association says all their customers have had their electricity restored. Harrell says repairs were done around eight Saturday night.

Power crews from Wisconsin, downstate and the eastern U.P. were helping Alger-Delta and the Marquette BL&P repair the lines.
