MARQUETTE -- Marquette Board of Light and Power crews have been hard at work replacing old meters with a new technology aimed to help consumers save some money.
BLP workers have replaced over 70 percent of the meters in Marquette Township and city so far. The new meter will allow for voltage and load monitoring through two-way communication.
This means the Board of Light and Power will be able to read actual, on demand readings, not just estimate.
"The money savings will be in the form of our load control, rather than building or producing more electricity than is needed. We are able to respond to the needs of the customer as it changes during the course of the day," said Meter Department Supervisor Kevin Downs.
The BLP will also be able to detect outages and dispatch crews to locations immediately.
