ESCANABA -- Paul Mitchell The School in Escanaba is passing the love and paying it forward by offering free hugs at Super One, Elmers and Christian Park Helathcare Center.

The Day Makers spent an hour at the locations offering free hugs to any takers, and there were many receivers at Christian Park.

Learning Leader Protégé Jessica Lynch said a few larger stores in town wouldn't allow them to use their site, not because they feared spreading germs, but because people's attention to the huggers would actually decrease store business.

"Basically, our Paul Mitchell system is that when we're hairdressers, we make people feel good on the outside, but there's more to it," said Lynch.  "We want to make people feel good on the inside.  And so, our school's based on a lot of culture, and this is part of our cultural system."

The team selected Christian Park because they wanted to share hugs with community members they couldn't reach at public locations.
