GRAND MARAIS -- Construction on the highly anticipated breakwater in Grand Marais may have hit a snag.
According to State Senator Tom Casperson's office, the Army Corps of Engineers is refusing to release $1.6 million appropriated to the project by Congress.
The township already has access to the $5.2 million appropriated by the state. The township wants to start construction by the middle of October in order to finish it by May 2012. That's when the environmental assessment expires.
Casperson's office says the senator will continue to talk with the Army Corps of Engineers and U.S. Senator Levin's office on how to free up the funding.
