HARRIS -- A high speed chase in Delta County resulted in a fiery head-on crash early Sunday morning, according to the Hannahville Police Department.

The police department received a call around 2 a.m. from the Menominee County Central Dispatch, warning of an intoxicated driver in the area of Wilson.  Hannahville officers located the suspect and attempted a routine traffic stop.

The suspect then fled the scene, leading police on a high speed chase in excess of 100 miles an hour on US-2.

After the driver successfully maneuvered through the construction zone near Pine Ridge, the vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a semi-truck.  The crash resulted in both vehicles exploding into flames.

The suspect was extricated from the vehicle, and officers began to administer first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived on scene.  The driver of the semi-truck is not believed to have suffered life threatening injuries.

The fires were extinguished by the Escanaba Public Safety Fire Department and the Ford River Township Volunteer Fire Department.

The suspect was taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital, then transported to Marquette General Hospital for further treatment.  The condition of the suspect is not being released at this time.  A Hannahville Police Officer received treatment for smoke inhalation and was released.

The incident is still under investigation.
