About 60 kids in Houghton made their mark on a new world record Saturday afternoon

HOUGHTON -- About 60 kids in Houghton were part of 100+ gyms and more than 20,000 people nationwide that broke the world record for Most Handstands Held Simultaneously.

The previous record was set in 2005 at just 2400 handstands.

The Superior School of Gymnastics hosted their part of the event Saturday at the Houghton Middle School.  They say Saturday was a great learning opportunity because executing that handstand can be tricky.

"Lunge, and put your hands to your ears," says record holder Kylie Ernandez.

"The handstand involves a very, very tight body, not only a tight body, but also conquering the fear of being upside down, which for your children is a different movement," says owner/coach Nicole Polakowski.

They also raised $500 for the Children's Miracle Network.

Gyms nationwide were participating in the challenge in conjunction with the U.S.A. Gymnastics Association.
