Many people take time to recognize war veterans on Memorial Day and Veterans Day, but Friday was focused on a different type of hero
IRON MOUNTAIN -- Friday was Prisoners of War and Missing in Action Recognition Day.
Several veterans were honored during a ceremony at Iron Mountain's Veteran Affair's building Friday morning that included a choir, awards, and a flyover.
One-hundred-forty-two-thousand Americans have spent time in P.O.W. camps since World War I and more than 75,000 veterans are still missing in action.
"It's important because we need to honor our veterans and the POWs and all of them that served us and help make this country what it is today," says P.O.W. VA Chair Laura Branz.
A separate P.O.W. and M.I.A. Recognition Day was also held in Marquette.
