MARQUETTE -- There are 83,000 known service members who are prisoners of war or missing in action. Veterans and community members came together Friday morning at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans to recognize National PoW and MIA Day for those who have sacrificed for our country.
Chapter 380 Vietnam Veterans of Marquette led the ceremony. They say it's especially important to recognize the missing, and never forget today and every day of the year.
"Stop and think for a second if you can, about being a prisoner of war, or missing in action, and the hell these folks went through or are going through today," said Master of Ceremonies Dave Hall. "That's what I was thinking about when I came in this morning."
Friday is one of six days of the year that Congress mandates the black PoW and MIA flag is flown. The theme of this year's recognition day is The Cost of Freedom.
