HANCOCK -- Fall is in the air, but for seniors in Houghton on Tuesday, it felt like a tropical vacation. The Houghton County Commission on Aging put on their annual Senior Heritage Day, and this year's theme was a Hawaiian Luau.
The event was held at the Houghton County Fairgrounds in Hancock. Seniors who attended danced to Polka music and played games like spin the wheel and ring toss. Many of them sported leis around their necks while socializing and enjoying lunch.
"This is a safe place where they can come for a social outing," said Tammy Carroll, Director of Home Health & Hospice. "It's very economical--the price is only four dollars at the door--and they win a lot of prizes, and they have a meal included and music. Iit's just a really good social event that we put on for them."
Among the vendors attending were Bluffs Senior Community Center, Harmony Gardens and Little Brothers of the Elderly.
