ISHPEMING -- Several Ishpeming teachers voiced their opinions over recent practices by the school board during their contract negotiations.
The main point made by teachers and their representatives was over payroll deductions that some argued were illegal since the teacher's contract expired at the end of August.
Other issues were larger class sizes with the layoff of seven teachers and the district's deficit.
"It just seems that the reason we don't have a contract tonight is because they are going way overboard on concessions, way overboard on what they're asking these people to do and the cuts they're asking to take compared to other teachers in this area or around the state," said teacher's representative, Stu Skauge.
School board members declined comment due to ongoing contract negotiations. The board then went into closed session; when they returned, they took no action and adjourned the meeting.
