BRUCE CROSSING -- A Bruce Crossing woman is facing charges after a two car crash in Ontonagon County this weekend.

The Ontonagon County Sheriff's Department reports that the crash happened Saturday evening at 7:25 p.m.

The 25-year-old driver was traveling on Himanka Hill Road, heading toward US-45.  She said that the sun was shining directly into her eyes, and a passenger alerted her to the stop sign.   However, despite hitting the brakes hard, the car slid into the path of an oncoming motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, Thomas Koponen of Pelkie, and his passenger Mary Koponen, were taken by Sonco South Ambulance to Aspirus Ontonagon for treatment of their injuries.  Their current conditions are not available.

The 25-year-old driver was taken into custody for careless driving causing serious injury.  She posted bond, and her name will not be released until her arraignment on September 27.

Assisting the Ontonagon County Sheriff's Department were troopers from the Michigan State Police in Wakefield and the Bruce Crossing Fire Department.
