CEDAR RIVER -- J.W. Wells State Park has seen a slight increase in campers over the last few years, and there was evidence of that this past weekend when 151 campsites were occupied.
That's not surprising since the Wells State Park in Cedar River gets most of its traffic on holiday weekends. They have 150 modern campsites and three rustic ones, with no electricity.
Lead Ranger Dave Adamini says it's likely the increase in campers is because the recreation passport has dropped from $24 to $10.
"There's nothing more enjoyable for us than coming in on a Friday, knowing it's going to be full for the weekend," said Adamini. "It's a whole different entity out here on the park when it's busy like that. It just bustles everywhere. It's nice to see them out enjoying themselves."
Overall, officials say it was a good summer for the park. Most weekends, the sites were filled with campers.
