MARQUETTE -- Not many people chose to spend Labor Day at the beach, but the unofficial last day of summer means the official last day of summer for the City of Marquette's beaches.

Monday marked the last day that the city's public beaches, McCarty's Cove and South Beach, will be open for the season.

Due to the inclement weather, no lifeguards were on duty earlier in the day.

Now that summer is over, the public beaches will no longer be manned by lifeguards.  Park patrol officers will continue to monitor the beaches and Picnic Rocks until October 2.
