Joshua Jaehnig was inspired from stories told by his grandfathers

HANCOCK -- A new exhibit opened Thursday at Finlandia University's Reflection Gallery in Hancock.  The exhibit features a graphic novel written and illustrated by a Finlandia alum, Josh Jaehnig.  The novel is called But By This Path and is based on the lives of Jaehnig’s grandfathers.  It's comprised of stories Jaehnig remembers being told by his grandfathers of the wars and hardships in their time.

Last summer, Jaehnig was awarded a scholarship that made it possible for him to publish 300 copies of his book.

“It definitely changed the way I look at a lot of things because it seems like a long time ago, things were a little bit more rough and tumble, and you kind of grow up with your grandpas and they're just nice old guys, but you realize that a lot of things have happened to them and they've had some pretty crazy lives,” explained Jaehnig.

The graphic novel will be on display until Sept. 30.
