ONTONAGON -- A number well into the six figures has been estimated in damage from the tornado that touched down in Ontonagon last month.
Officials say cost to the village adds up to about $10,000. That includes equipment and manpower in the two days following the storm.
Another $45,000 is estimated for the Ontonagon Hospital that had a generator failure during that time. The estimated six figures also includes resident cleanup costs, as well as labor and service restorations for UPPCO and other companies.
"I would say it's pretty much what you would expect from an event like that," said Ontonagon County Emergency Manager Bill Johnson. "You never know exactly; I mean, to find the correct accounting, you'll never know the hours that a private citizen put in, and that. But it's only an estimate in my part."
An exact figure on the total cost has not been announced yet.
