MARQUETTE COUNTY -- Spending time at the office and keeping a steady paycheck is critical in this economy, but for many parents, that can be difficult when they have little ones.
Preschool and daycare programs can be pricy, but there's a new option for Marquette and Alger County residents.
The Marquette Alger Great Start Collaborative is now providing preschool scholarships to local three year olds. It's all thanks to a $100,000 grant they received this year from the Early Childhood Investment Corporation.
The program provides between $3,000 and $4,000 for one year of preschool, and the Great Start still has about $35,000 left to hand out.
"We have this money left over--if the funds aren't utilized, that money goes back to ECIC, and we know there are families in Marquette and Alger counties that could benefit from these funds," said YMCA Child Development Director Lori Smolinkski. "So we really want to get the word out and get people to come in and apply. The application process is pretty simple."
The deadline to apply for the scholarships is September 16. You can fill out an application by going to the Great Start Collaborative website.
