DICKINSON COUNTY -- The man who died in a Saturday morning truck fire has been identified as 34-year-old Adam Steele of Kingsford.

Steele died when a truck he was sleeping in caught fire in a field on Dickinson County Road 607 in Breitung Township, according to the Dickinson County Sheriff's Department.

The truck had become stuck on a stump, and three men were unable to free it.  Steele went to sleep in the truck while one of the other men slept next to a fire pit 200 yards from the truck and another went to his residence nearby.

The man sleeping next to the fire pit woke around 6 a.m. on Saturday and noticed flames coming from the field the truck was located in.  He sought help to put out the fire, and when he arrived, the man inside the truck was dead.

The Michigan State Police Fire Investigator has stated that the fire was probably accidental and started in either the engine or the undercarriage of the vehicle.
