ISHPEMING -- We told you on Monday about a group of Catholic youth gathering non-perishable food donations as part of this year's Vacation Bible School at Saint Joseph Church in Ishpeming, and Friday morning, the school culminated with a family fun picnic.

More than 65 students and volunteers spent the week collecting the donations and learned about helping your neighbor in their time of need.

"This week has been a real success and building our faith and building awareness for our neighborhood, and that poverty is not a choice and that giving is a choice we made this week," said Youth Coordinator Rebecca LaChappelle.

The donations weren't weighed, but organizers say they were pleased with what they collected.

The food donations replaced any cost to participate in the Vacation Bible School.
