IRON RIVER TOWNSHIP -- Edward Heinz, 86, died on Thursday morning in a Milwaukee hospital after sustaining injuries from a propane explosion in Iron River Township on Wednesday.

Heinz, an Appleton, Wisconsin resident, was attempting to light the water heater at his cottage when the incident occurred around 5:45 a.m.

The Michigan State Police Fire Marshall has examined the scene of the explosion, and ruled it as accidental.  The explosion was the result of a propane leak into the confined crawl space that the water heater was located in, according to the Fire Marshall.

The specific origin of the leak has not been determined.
