MARQUETTE -- The U.P.'s only Democratic State Representative was joined by downstate Democratic leaders in a question-and-answer session Friday.

State Representative Steve Lindberg, House Democratic Leader Richard E. Hammel and many other Democratic leaders discussed the state education cuts with the community.

At Graveraet Middle School, local education leaders voiced their concerns about the stress put on educators and the impact this has on the education system.

Lindberg says although the budget has been set this year, they're hoping they can still aid educators in the rough economic climate and fix any mistakes in the future.

"What can we do at this point and time to make that impact maybe just a little less painless?" asked Lindberg.

Districts will see a cut of $470 in per-pupil support from the state this year.
