NEGAUNEE TWP. -- "Iron Ore and the Civil War," a Civil War encampment, featured music, actors, and demonstrations, including an artillery demonstration of a replica cannon.

Battery D is a well-known reenactment group based downstate.  Members say visitors enjoy learning about the only war fought among Americans.

"Reenacting of the Civil War is a bigger activity than any other reenacting part of the hobby, because so many of us have ancestors that fought for either North or South, or some have ancestors that fought on both sides, and so there's that family attachment," says Battery D member Jim Newkirk.

If you missed the Civil War encampment, you can see it on a larger scale next weekend.  The Battery D Artillery will be at Fort Wilkins in Copper Harbor.
