MUNISING -- Loggers who have worked in the industry all their lives got a chance to see their work in a different way Saturday.
The Alger County Chamber of Commerce hosted the first Flannel Jack Fest in Munising. The purpose is to give a community that works closely with the logging industry more exposure to its history.
They estimate about 1,500 people came out for the festivites.
One of the popular events was the Great Lakes Timber Show. They say it may look easy, but traditional challenges, like "the log roll," are actually very challenging.
"If they only knew the practice that we put into it. You know give it a chance, it is becoming a sport. You do see it on ESPN now; the competitions are amazing and people are just blown away," said Missy Sundholm of the Great lakes Timer Show.
The chamber plans to hold another Flannel Jack Festival next year. They may eventually expand it to a three-day event.
