NEGAUNEE -- Almost 130 swimmers registered this year for the Teal Lake Swim which benefits diabetes.

The first swimmer came in with a time of just over 50 minutes.

The swim is more than two miles long, and it can be challenging for many swimmers, including an Olympic silver medalist.

"You get walls in the swimming pool, and I was always good at walls, so I didn't have any walls to push off and glide," says Olympic silver medalist Coralie Simmons.

"Seems like it goes by a lot slower, because when you look up towards the finish line, it always seems like it never gets any closer," adds swimmer Wes Vear.

Money raised from the event supports a local diabetes camp held at Northern Michigan University.
