MARQUETTE -- It's been a long process, but the Third Street corridor could soon be a part of the Marquette Downtown Development Authority.
Almost a year ago, the Village Business Association approached the DDA with the possibility of joining that organization.
DDA says many of the property owners on Third Street are in favor of the merger even with the added two mills in taxes they would have to pay.
The DDA considered shopping district and corridor improvement programs before deciding to simply include Third Street into the DDA.
"It certainly is a connector and a corridor between the more traditional downtown and northern and also the hospital," said DDA Executive Director Mona Lang. "So it is, you know, it is a good ft. It's all small independent businesses, and I think they're looking for some structure to help them further their development."
The City Commission will hold a public hearing on the matter at their September 13 meeting.
