MARQUETTE -- In this tough economic climate, college grads need all the help they can get when it comes to landing a job.

That was the goal of a Michigan Campus Compact retreat at NMU Monday:  to figure out ways to help students get more involved in their communities so they can be more competitive for jobs.

One example was how to expose urban students to the issues of rural communities and vice versa.

"The idea is to really make sure that the students who graduate are the types of individuals that can solve community problems and would be an asset to any employer or any community that they go to," said Compact participant, Renee Zientek.

There are currently 42 members of the Michigan Campus Compact.

This was their first retreat in Northern Michigan.
