The very first race started with only a dozen people
MARQUETTE -- The 12 Hours of Potluck Mountain Bike Race returned to Marquette with the help of Classic Auto Collision and Blinkstoker productions.
The Potluck has grown from just a dozen people in 2000 to nearly 200 people today. The race lasted 12 hours Saturday and featured a 6-mile loop of flat, rolling and climbing terrain. The event gets its name from its course, over the Potluck Creek, but it now includes a "potluck" of snacks for those who participate.
"The name, the potluck race, is because we cross the Potluck Creek which is just behind us in the woods, so that's where it really started, and then people asked us the question, 'Well, what should I bring?' so we said, ah-ha!"
Registration only cost $25 for those who signed up in April. Last minute signup last night cost $45.
