BARAGA -- On Friday, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community held a cancer prevention and early detection carnival to help raise awareness about preventable cancers.
The event was held in the Niiwin Akeaa Center at the Ojibwa Community College and featured multiple booths on preventable cancers such as skin, breast and colorectal.
The carnival featured the prevent cancer super colon, a twenty-foot replica of a colon that allowed attendees to travel through the colon and see firsthand what cancer looks like.
"We're trying to raise awareness by this interactive, super inflatable colon; you know, this is what happens when you're screened," said KBIC Health Director Kathy Mayo.
The Cancer Prevention Carnival was sponsored by the KBIC and the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
