The Marquette Farmer's Market has seen a new feature startup this summer
MARQUETTE -- Brief education sessions are being held with various agriculture-related organizations about a wide range of topics.
This weekend, it was a duo from the Weston A. Price Foundation talking about grain preparation. And specifically, the traditional methods of preparation that can ensure you get all you can out of whole grains and oats.
Simply eating store bought grain and oats can deprive you of some of their nutritional value.
"The way that they used to do it would be to soak their oatmeal overnight in an acidic medium, like water with some yogurt mixed in, and that would eliminate the grain's defense mechanism which would prevent that absorption, so if you do soak it, you are able to get the full benefit of the grain," says Weston A. Price Representative John O'Bryan.
There will be more sessions throughout the rest of the summer, so you can head down to each Farmer's Market to check them out.
