SANDS TWP. -- Fans braved the heat Saturday afternoon to take in racing at the Sands Speedway track.

The time trials start at 4 p.m., with racing starting at 5 p.m. every Saturday this summer.

Racing for four different classes goes for three hours.

The season started about four weeks ago.

"We've got a good car count, the crowd has been pretty good.  We've had to deal with rain, potential rain, and we had the 4th of July weekend, things like that where people have other plans made before they knew we were going to be running on Saturday, but it's going really well," says Sands Speedway co-owner Stan Wittler.

A grand opening will be held August 6.
