NEGAUNEE -- Tuesday, some Ishpeming and Negaunee residents learned how the mining industry changed the area through the eyes of Cleveland-Cliffs.
The presentation was part of the Michigan Iron Industry Museum's Afternoons at the Museum program and featured Terry Reynolds, a Michigan Tech professor and co-author of Iron Will, which explores Cleveland-Cliffs and the mining of iron ore from 1847-1996.
Reynolds spoke of U.P. and national mining and why Cleveland-Cliffs flourished while others failed.
"To give a history of iron mining in Michigan and the Great Lakes region through the lends of one company, an important company, the only independent mining company that survived," said Reynolds.
The next Afternoons at the Museum program will be on July 19 and will cover Finnish immigrants and their response to industry in the Copper Country.
