Motorcyclist dies in early morning crash

ISHPEMING -- An Ishpeming man is dead after a two vehicle crash early Wednesday morning.

According to the Ishpeming City Police, it happened just before 5:30 Wednesday morning on US-41 in front of the Holiday Gas Station.

A 1993 Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 47-year-old Ishpeming man pulled out of the station and into the path of an oncoming motorcycle.

The motorcycle driver, a 36-year-old man from Ely Township, was unable to stop or avoid the car.  The motorcyclist was taken to the Bell Memorial emergency room where he was pronounced dead.

The names of those involved have not been released, but are expected to be announced on Thursday morning.

The Michigan State Police accident reconstruction team is assisting in the investigation.
