More than 70 floats and vehicles were part of this year's parade
IRON MOUNTAIN/KINGSFORD -- It's Independence Day and the celebrations throughout Upper Michigan are about family, friends and freedom.
Monday morning, hundreds of people showed up for the annual Iron Mountain-Kingsford Independence Day Parade. More than 70 floats and vehicles participated in the parade including police and fire departments, veterans, and politicians like U.S. Congressman Dan Benishek.
A majority of the floats threw out candy to kids.
Also, long-time community leader Bob Tice was memorialized as this year's grand marshal. Tice died after battling cancer earlier this year.
For organizers and the crowd, it turned out to be a picture perfect day.
“It's just heartwarming to think that you can put something together and you can come here and think you've affected this many people,” said parade director Diana L. Miller. “When you get out here and you see how many people it’s affected, you see how excited these kids get and the fun they have, it's awesome.”
The celebration will conclude with the annual fireworks show from Millie Hill Monday night at dusk.
