Ultimate Air Dogs allows dogs of all shapes and sizes to "dock jump"
GLADSTONE -- There was a Fourth of July alternative for dogs. Dozens of dogs and their devoted owners came to Van Cleve Park in Gladstone Sunday morning for the first ever U.P. appearance of Ultimate Air Dogs.
Ultimate Air Dogs works pretty simply. A dog goes down the 40-foot dock before jumping into the 40-foot pool. The distance they jump is measured, and the scores are tracked. Each dog is allowed two jumps.
"Dogs are doing what they naturally like to do--they like to chase balls and toys and jump and swim, and that's what they get to do," says co-owner Milt Wilcox. "What's also nice for the people is they get to come here and hang out with other people that love their animals and want to do the same things. It's camaraderie, a lot of new friends are made this way, and we can do this along with time with their pets."
Sunday's competition was free for participating pooches in honor of the holiday celebration.
Ultimate Air Dogs is already planning a return trip in the future.
