IRON MOUNTAIN -- Dickinson Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain will be getting a major makeover over the next few years.
The hospital announced a nine million dollar renovation project that will consolidate services and improve the quality of care. The project includes building a new medical clinic, expanding the pediatric clinic, and creating a cardiology department on the hospital's campus.
The project will likely be funded by USDA grants, but could also include loans from local banks.
The CEO, John Schon, says the project helps the hospital remain competitive.
"For us to be competitive in the recruitment market, retain the good doctors and quality doctors that we have, and then provide onsite convenience to our patients is real key. So with this I believe all those issues will be, to some degree, solved," emphasized Schon.
Initial construction is expected to begin later this summer.
The project is expected to be completed by 2013.
