Benishek recently took a forestry tour in the UP.

IRON MOUNTAIN -- First District Congressman Dan has introduced legislation in Congress focused on timber harvests that are on federal land.

While in the U.P. recently, Benishek went on a forestry field tour and conducted a roundtable discussion with loggers, forestry experts, and timber companies.

Benishek says the legislation will help deregulate the federal forests.

"The legislation that I will be sponsoring this summer is about making it easer to cut trees down in the federal forests," says Benishek.  "We all want sustainable forests, we want healthy forests and right now we're not cutting enough trees down to keep the forest healthy."

Benishek also says he believes the legislation will help create jobs and stimulate the economy as well.
