UPPER PENINSULA -- Earlier this month, we certainly had a period of warmer than normal weather.  For five days in a row, the temperatures were above normal.  On June 8, we even hit 90 degrees for the first time this year and tied the record high temperature set back in 2004.

It was all because of an upper-level ridge and low-level warm-air advection pattern that continuously funneled warm air across the U.P.

The current weather pattern looks different though.  No longer is the entire southern portion of the country completely dominated by ridging upper-air patterns.  The flow appears to be more zonal.  This means that we can expect less warm temperatures.

This more zonal upper-air flow pattern will help to push a few weather disturbances our way as we move into next week.

The first of those will arrive upon the area, unfortunately, on Father's Day.  Apparently Mother Nature isn't a big fan of that partiulcar holiday, this year.

Now we're expecting increased rain chances for Father's Day, especially along the Wisconsin line.  Because of dry high pressure still hanging over much of the eastern half of the U.P., it will be difficult for much rain to make it to the East.

But, after Sunday, that high pressure is forecast to break down.  And then the entire U.P. should expect increased rain chances through Thursday brought on by two different low-pressure systems. There could also be a few thunderstorms mixed in with the rain due to the instability of the atmosphere.

The wind pattern around these low-pressure systems will be mainly from the East and North instead of the South.

Because of this, our temperatures will rarely warm into the mid and upper 70s.  Most highs for next week will stay in the 60s, topping out near the 70-degree mark.  Quite the change from earlier this month.
