MARQUETTE -- Kennecott Minerals is hoping to answer some of the community's questions about their mining projects with a new education office in downtown Marquette.

The mining company's new education center is currently under construction on the 100 block of Washington Street.  Visitors will see models, videos and exhibits relating to the Eagle Mine operations.

The goal of the center is to strengthen their relationship with the community and to provide a place where residents can learn about sustainable and responsible mining.

"We understand that the community might be unsure about what we're doing with the mine," said Kennecott Representative Chantae Lessard.  "We're going to eventually offer tours, and we hope this education center will provide an opportunity for those people who are curious and want to find out more information and about Kennecott to come in and ask those questions."

Kennecott representatives say the education center will be open this 4th of July weekend.
