MARQUETTE -- Marquette County health officials are hoping that one day this week will change the lives of many.

Bike to Work day is Friday.

They're aiming at showing residents that a simple bike ride to work is not that difficult.

They're expecting a high participation rate this year due to the high gas prices, but saving some green isn't the main focus on their mission.

"A lot of people don't realize that it also benefits your health," said George Sedlacek, Community Health Director.  "Even those short trips of five to ten minutes a day over a course of a summer, that'll add up to a fairly significant weight loss and so those will add up."

There'll be a pit stop location Friday at the Marquette Mall between 6:30 to 9 a.m. so people who live further away can park their cars and then pedal their bikes to work.

Border Grill and the Marquette Food Co-op will also host an aid station during those hours on Washington Street with refreshments.
