Copper Harbor has something for everyone to enjoy
COPPER HARBOR -- You don't have to have a lot of vacation time to explore the U.P. this summer, in fact there are many great places you can visit in just a day.
What's better than a cool breeze at the top of Brockway Mountain on a hot day? Maybe a bike ride on the "epic" Copper Harbor trails or a chance to admire the beauty of Jacob’s Falls? Whatever your preference, Copper Harbor has something for everyone to enjoy without spending a lot of money.
"A lot of people barbeque, but the restaurants also have diverse menus that can feed larger groups of people more economically,” says Copper Harbor Improvement Association President Stacie Gibson. “There's no cost for enjoying our waterways or touring the beaches."
Many of you with children like to spend a day at the DeYoung Family Zoo in Wallace.
And Katie Long wrote that "Rapid River Falls is a great place for the whole family. It's surrounded by woods and has picnic tables and grills scattered throughout a beautiful grassy area."
Other favorites include Pictured Rocks and Kitchitikipi Springs and historical attractions like the Delaware Mine and Fort Wilkins State Park. With so much to choose from, a series of day trips might work best.
"We’re just touring everywhere,” says Rick Seebeck. “We're spending a month checking out the sites, and one of the first sites on our list was Copper Harbor. We restored an old motor home and we've got the family out for a month-long trip."
A number of these destinations are in or near a state park, and it only costs Michigan residents $10 for a license plate sticker that works as an annual pass.
