MARINETTE COUNTY -- Update 5:50 p.m. EST
The Marinette County Sheriff's Department was notified of a domestic disturbance in the Town of Beaver at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday when an 80-year-old woman called 911, stating her husband had a gun.
Three deputies arrived at the home located at N 6114 W. 26th Road. The woman was able to flee the home to safety.
A short time after the woman ran to safety, her 83-year-old husband exited the home with a 12 gauge shotgun. Authorities told the man to drop his weapon, but he refused. The man then racked the shotgun and pointed it at one of the deputies, who then fired three shots, killing the 83-year-old man.
The officer has been put on administrative leave with pay as part of the policy of the Sheriff's Department.
This incident is under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
The names of the victim and his wife are expected to be released on Friday. The last time a Marinette County Sheriff's Department had a shooting incident was in July of 1988.

Officers responded to the scene in the town of Beaver where a woman called reporting the disturbance with her husband, who reportedly had a firearm.
Authorities were able to get the woman safely from the residence. Her husband came out of the house with a firearm. Officers requested the man to put the weapon down, but he ignored the instructions. He was shot and later pronounced dead at the scene.
No officers were injured in the incident.
