IRON MOUNTAIN -- The Iron Mountain community got an up close look at how the American Red Cross plans to respond to local emergencies.
The Red Cross unveiled its disaster shelter trailer Monday.
Over $6,200 was raised by the local Red Cross chapter to buy the trailer and supplies with Boss Snowplow donating an additional $3,100. The trailer includes cots, blankets, and pillows for 50 people and allows the organization to respond quickly to emergencies.
"It's extremely important because, as we see with events that have happened over the course of the last month, whether it's tornadoes in Alabama, Missouri, flooding now again in North Dakota," said Nick Cluppert of the Red Cross Emergency Service. "We have volunteers deployed to all those places, but it's important for us to be ready here as well."
The trailer will be used for disaster response in Dickinson, Florence, and Marinette Counties.
